How to Accurately Fit a JettProof Singlet

The first JettProof product, and still the most popular, is our sensory compression singlets. They are designed to help children and adults experiencing sensory challenges, anxiety, ADHD, autism and other neurological conditions regulate their bodies and filter sensory information. However, the singlet must fit correctly for the wearer to experience the best outcome.

The Benefits of JettProof Singlets

You may be thinking that a singlet is just a singlet, but if you have ever had a morning disrupted by an itchy tag, annoying seam, or a general sense of disarray, you and your family may find a sense of relief from a JettProof singlet. The JettProof singlet is designed to help regulate the body and filter sensory information, enabling the ability to stay calm, and focused. The careful design and use of Calmtex®, a specially manufactured lightweight, breathable and moisture-wicking fabric, makes the JettProof singlet unique, continuing to offer the wearer reassuring, gentle pressure throughout their day without building any resistance. It's kind of like wearing a hug!

JettProof Singlets:

Your Guide to Fitting a JettProof Singlet Accurately

Whether you are a parent or an Occupational Therapist looking to fit a JettProof singlet, there are a few key steps to follow. These steps will help ensure that your child receives the best fit and experience when it comes to wearing a JettProof singlet.

Step 1: Measuring for the Perfect Fit

Accurate sizing is essential to ensure the singlet provides the right level of compression.

  • Please measure chest circumference with their arms relaxed at their sides. (For girls, take an under bust measurement.)

  • Use the JettProof sizing chart or online sizing calculator to select the correct size.

  • If the measurement falls between sizes, choose the smaller size to ensure optimal compression. A loose fit will not provide the full sensory benefits.

Step 2: Choosing a Colour or Print

If for a child, let them pick a colour or fun print they love. A design they love can make the transition easier and encourage acceptance.

Step 3: Preparing Your Child

Before introducing the singlet, it's helpful to explain what to expect. Every child reacts differently to the gentle compression:

  • Many children adjust quickly, and often afterwards, they always want to keep it on.

  • Others may initially find it itchy or uncomfortable. In most cases, allowing them to wear it for up to 30 minutes helps them acclimate.

  • If discomfort persists, you can try a different time of day or a brief wear period before gradually increasing the duration.

Mild tingling or an adjustment period is normal—this reaction is the sensory system responding to the gentle pressure.

Step 4: Putting on the Singlet

For a smooth experience, ensure the wearer is calm and comfortable before putting on the singlet. Some individuals may benefit from a quiet environment or a preferred activity, such as watching TV or listening to music, to help transition.

Whether assisting a child or an adult, follow these steps for an easy and comfortable fit:

  • Stretch the neckline and guide it over their head.

  • Help them place each arm through the armholes.

  • Pull it down over the torso and hips, ensuring it fits snugly.

  • Please encourage them to move around, play, or do normal activities to adjust to the sensation.

For best results, put the singlet on after a shower or before bed to help with relaxation.

Step 5: Removing the Singlet

When removing the singlet, ensure the individual is comfortable and does not feel rushed. Start from the bottom and gently lift it over their head, guiding their arms out as needed.

Many individuals learn to remove the singlet independently if they are physically able.
